The IACE, in collaboration with BDO Tunisia, organized on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 the 5th edition of the Governance Forum, under the theme "Preparing the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd Generation of Tunisian Family Business", at the Maison of the Enterprise, headquarters of the IACE.
This 5th edition brought together the presence of national and international experts, Managing Directors and influential personalities of the national economic sphere in this case Mr. Ahmed Bouzguenda President of the IACE, Mr. Youssef Kortobi, President of the Tunisian Corporate Governance Center, Mr. Mohamed Derbel Chartered Accountant-Partner BDO, Mr. Philippe Haspeslagh, President of Family Business Network-Belgium, Mr. Fayçal Derbel, Advisor to the Head of Government.
Two panels were held to deal with the issue of trans-generational passage within family businesses, an important topic especially for the Tunisian economy, as "more than 90% of the industrial fabric in Tunisia are family businesses", according to the declaration of Mr. Ahmed Bouzguenda, President of IACE.
The forum started with a presentation in tandem by Mr. Mohamed Derbel Chartered-Accountant- Partner BDO and Mr.Majdi Hassen - University Professor-Executive Director of the IACE, the results of a survey of 18 executives belonging to 13 Groups / Family businesses. Then a first panel moderated by Mr. Fayçal Derbel, Former President of the Tunisian Center of Corporate Governance and currently Advisor to the Head of government saw a rich exchange thanks to his panelists, Mr. Fadhel Abdelkefi, Chairman of the Board Administration, Tunisie Valeurs, Mr. Taieb Bayahi, Director, Bayahi Group, Mr. Moez Belkhiria, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BSB and Mr. Mohamed Mehdi, Chartered Accountant BDO-Partner who dealt with the issue of fluid transition from the 2nd to the 3rd generation and the organizational challenges that it implies.
The second panel moderated by Mrs. Rafla Ayed Hefaiedh, University Professor and Consultant in management also saw the participation of great specialists but also of "Success stories" like Philippe Haspeslagh, President, FBN Belgium, Mrs. Hela Tebourbi, President , International University of Tunis, Mr. Hichem Elloumi, Chairman & CEO, COFICAB Group, Miss Syrine Masmoudi, 3rd generation of Masmoudi Group and Ms. Alma Hafsi, University Professor, Department of Psychology. This second panel focused on the psychological aspects of transmission, the training and involvement of the next generation and the role played by the spouse in establishing harmonious relationships and the perpetuation of family spirit.
This 5th Governance Forum presented itself as a framework for sharing and exchange, where participants presented testimonials of their personal experiences of transmission. It has made it possible to take advantage of a considerable foreign experience as presented by Mr. Philippe Haspeslagh, President of Family Business Network-Belgium, who emphasized that a successful transfer requires leadership, responsibility and talent to guarantee growth.
Following this forum, a series of events and activities will be held over the next 3 years around family businesses in a strategic orientation by the IACE in collaboration with BDO Tunisia, the international network of audit and consulting , specialist in family businesses.
